The second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship is in the books and again today, I thought we were going to witness golf history.
Tim Clark was absolutely on fire for most of his round today, getting to 11-under-par with two holes remaining. He was but a birdie-par finish on the final two holes from reaching that illusive number of 59, which I’ve always thought is sort of like the Holy Grail of the sport.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be as Tim bogeyed his final two holes of the day, the 8th and 9th, to finish at a still-impressive 62. Coupled with his opening round 66, Clark is the overnight leader heading into Sunday’s third round.
Yesterday’s leader, Mike Weir, shot another nice round today, rallying from a slow start to finish with a 3-under-par 68. He’s one shot behind Clark at -13.
For two straight days, we’ve seen perfect weather conditions that have yielded low scores. If this keeps up, there might even be a chance to break the Championship record. In case you’re wondering, -20 is the lowest 72-hole score for this event, posted by the inaugural champion, Adam Scott, in 2003.
Today was also the cut day for this event. There were a lot of great names that made the cut, but one that stands out to me is New England-native Brett Quigley. This is the first time that Brett has made the cut in this event and it comes at a time where he’d be very justified if his mind were elsewhere given that his wife, Amy, is about to give birth.
While there was some incredible golf play at TPC Boston today, we also kicked of the John D. Mineck DBC Junior Cup today at Boston Golf Club in Hingham. This event pits 36 of the top youth golfers from New England and the United States in a friendly team competition. That event concludes tomorrow afternoon. After day one, Team USA has a good lead on Team New England.
There are a lot of big names atop the Leaderboard heading into Sunday, so if you’re looking to see some of the best golfers on the PGA TOUR fire some impressive scores, you’ll want to be TPC Boston when these guys tee it up tomorrow! Group to watch….1:05pm Sergio Garcia/Ernie Els.
