Day, Snedeker Share 36-Hole Lead at DBC - September 3rd
Posted by Jim Connelly (09/04/2010 06:26PM )Friday’s co-leader Jason Day carded a 4-under-par 67 on Saturday and shares the 36-hole lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship with Brandt Snedeker, who shot the low round of the day, a 64. Both golfers are at 12-under-par and hold a single shot lead over FedExCup points leader Matt Kuchar and Charlie Hoffman.
Snedeker posted a bogey free round in the morning when the wind conditions were calmer than the afternoon. Day used booked end back-to-back birdies, first at the opening 1st and 2nd holes and then to close the round at the par-4 17th and par-5 18th, to finish 4-under on the day and jump into a tie for the lead.
Kuchar, who last week won a playoff at the Barclays to climb to the top of the FedExCup points standings, had a chance to joined the leaders at 12-under on the 18th but lipped out a short putt, settling for par.
A total of 17 players are within four shots of the lead, including 10 that are four back at 8-under.
Defending Champions Stricker Lurking
Steve Stricker, victorious at the TPC Boston a year ago, followed up his 6-under-par 65 on Friday with a bogey-free 68 on Saturday and sits just three shots back. The defending champ made 15 pars along with three birdies (2nd, 8th and 14th) to account for the score.
Romero’s Ace First Since 2006
Andres Romero became the first player to record a hole-in-one at the par-3 8th hole in the eight-year history of the Deutsche Bank Championship. The Argentinean, who a week ago holed a 40-foot, 6-inch putt on the 72nd hole to qualify for this week’s event as the 100th and final player in the field, needs to move up a minimum of 30 positions this week to continue his post-season, so the ace was a welcome reward.
The hole-in-one was the first since 2006, when Robert Allenby aced the par-3 16th hole and Jonathan Byrd carded a hole-in-one on the par-3 11th. Both of those came during the second round as well.
